The Top Tips for Winterizing Your Wheelchair Van

It’s that time of year again. The temperatures are dropping, the nights are getting longer and the holidays are getting closer. While wintertime can be fun for those who love snow and for spending more time with family, it’s hard on your vehicle. To make sure that you’re safe while driving, IMED Mobility has compiled the top tips for winterizing your wheelchair van.

Vehicle Lights – Winter is dark; there’s less daylight, the nights are longer and winter storms can really reduce visibility. You need to make sure that all of your wheelchair van’s lights are working and in good condition. Check your headlights, taillights, brake lights, turn signals and reverse lights.

It’s All about Your Tires – With winter comes ice and snow. You need to make sure that your tires are in good condition. Have the tires rotated so that the best two are in front. If you are getting close to replacement, you might consider having all four replaced now. If you live in an area where snowfall and ice accumulations are serious, have snow tires installed.

Antifreeze – While checking all of your fluids is important, making sure that your antifreeze offers plenty of freeze protection is vital. Check the level and the amount of protection offered by the fluid. If it has been several years since it was changed, you should have your radiator drained and refilled with new antifreeze.

Be Prepared – Winter travel can be dangerous. You need to make sure that you are prepared for any situation. Keep an emergency kit in your wheelchair van at all times. Your kit should include things like a flashlight, warm blankets, extra batteries, bottled water and hand warmers.

Following these simple tips will help make sure that you and your wheelchair accessible van are ready for anything that the season might throw at you.

IMED Mobility Offers New Handicap Vans for the New Season!

October is a magical time of ghosts and goblins for many, of trick or treating fun, and a good scare or two.  With Halloween parties and events to attend all month long, having wheelchair vans available for those who need them is a must.  The ease of being able to get in and out of our specially designed vans makes the season (and life overall!) much more fun.  Features such as lowered floors, one touch operation, easy to use ramps and lifts make getting to and from where you want to go a breeze.

Have you thought about your Halloween costume yet this year?  Many people are really using their wheelchairs as an advantage when it comes to costumes.  Some of our favorites have included the Dark Knight in his bat mobile, Darth Vader in a tie fighter, Cinderella in her pumpkin coach and Jack Sparrow on his pirate ship!  Don’t stop there though, with a little imagination and time you could have the most original costume come Halloween night!  The point is, you don’t have to give up on life just because of new physical challenges.

IMED Mobility offers assistance in the way of mechanics and technology through handicap vans so that you can meet these challenges.  Our mobility vans are roomy, comfortable, and best of all, affordable.

If you are thinking about buying a van this season, then you’ll be happy to know we here at IMED Mobility have new, used and even rental vans available.  Our new van models include the 2011 Honda Odyssey Touring Elite, 2011 Toyota Sienna and the 2011 Chrysler Town & Country, along with many more.  Our current used van lineup includes 1991 models all the way to new 2011 vans.  You can check out our website for our current new and used inventory, or see if rentals are available in your state.  Buying new “tricked” out handicap vans in October certainly would be a “treat”!

We here at IMED Mobility wish all our customers a happy Halloween!
