Handicap vans have always been a wonderful transportation tool, now they are a statement of sytle. The Honda Odyssey with a VMI Northstar power conversion is the industry's best solution. In April 2008 the Honda Odyssey was named the “Best Van” on Car and Driver's 5 Best List. In addition to the rave reviews from Car and Driver, Kelley Blue Book has honored the Honda Odyssey with its Best Resale Value Award in the Van/Minivan category.
VMI has worked closely with Honda to provide wheelchair accessibility and preserve the features that has earned the Honda Odyssey a reputation as the best minivan on the road. When the Honda Odyssey is equipped with the VMI Northstar conversion, you get the best minivan and the best wheelchair accessible conversion on the market today.
With over 14 years of service, VMI Northstar wheelchair vans have earned a reputation as the most dependable power wheelchair conversion. It all starts with VMI engineering. Designed with the fewest possible moving parts, you can operate your conversion with confidence knowing that when you need your handicap van, it will function properly. The defining feature of Northstar handicap vans is the in floor ramp, which slides in and out of a weatherized compartment in the floor of the van.
An 11 inch lowered floor enables ample headroom (55 inches) when entering the vehicle and once inside. The lowered floor also creates a natural line of sight out the windows and one of the lowest ramp angles available in a lowered floor minivan. Both front seats are removable, enabling wheelchair users to ride in the front passenger position, or even drive with or without the assistance of hand controls. Power Kneel lowers the rear suspension of the van to reduce the ramp angle even further. The spare tire even tucks into the side of the van, allowing for more cargo space in the back of the van.

The Honda Odyssey with the VMI Summit conversion offers the same spaciousness and wheelchair maneuverability as the Northstar in-floor conversion. The floor is lowered 11 inches to enhance driver line of sight and provide generous headroom.
Other standard features on the Honda Odyssey with the VMI Summit conversion include a powered fold-out ramp that has a smooth and precise ramp operation. There are perforations in the ramp for increased traction and to help keep the ramp surface clean. The PowerKneel™ system automatically and gently lowers the vehicle to decrease ramp incline and increase accessibility. There is also a self-actuating anti-rattle mechanism that prevents ramp movement and rattle for a quiet ride.
